I'm still playing around with my new sewing machine. And since we're taking it easy for the next couple of weeks, I'm just working on whatever I feel like :)
I found this free quilted casserole trivet by Bre T Quilt Designs and thought I'd make a couple. I'm always using a folded towel whenever I have a casserole or a large dish, so this is a step up for sure :)
I used only scraps for the entire project, including the binding. (I always tend to make more binding than I need, so I usually have leftovers.) If you haven't tried the quilt-as-you-go method yet, it's pretty fun and a little addictive.
There are 2 layers of batting, plus a layer of Insulbrite, so they are perfect for the counter or tabletop.
I finished one by machine stitching the binding, and one by hand finishing the binding. Even though the machine stitched binding is fast and easy, I still prefer the look of the hand finished binding. It's nice to have options, though.
Are you a hand finisher or a machine finisher, or both?

I love quiet colors, gentle stitches and making things by hand.
