Next up in our Needlework Expo preview is the third design... Home for the Holidays!
I love being home during the holidays...well, shoot, I just love being home anytime. I'm a complete homebody! It works out pretty well since my business is home-based and my husband is also a homebody.
But the coziness of the holidays is always special...and that's where this design started from. I started with a couple of berry baskets just because they are so cute and fun to stitch. Then a hillside full of subtle quaker-inspired motifs and a chalet-style house.
I finished this design the same way I would a Christmas ornament. It's basically just an oversize ornament with a ric rac hanger to make it easy to hang from a knob or door handle. Then after the holidays, it's easy to store since it's a flat piece.
Stitched on Marzipan by Colour & Cotton, it calls for Weeks and Classic Colorworks threads with just one DMC color thrown in for good measure.
I finished the edge by couching a length of DMC floss (all 6 strands) with a pale green 28 wt. cotton thread. It was just enough to give it a finished look without being too much. The backing is a black and cream quilting cotton.

I'm Robin, the designer behind October House. You've found my blog, where I ramble on about stitching and sewing and anything else that catches my fancy!
I love quiet colors, gentle stitches and making things by hand.
